Green TP: A Novel Approach to the Production of Sustainable Toilet Paper Using Crop Residue

There are several environmental concerns about the sustainability of toilet paper due to its contribution to forest degradation and the ongoing search for alternative fibres. This project presents a novel approach to producing toilet paper from crop residue, which addresses both forest degradation and research gaps on toilet paper production while also meeting physical and health risk requirements associated with commercial toilet paper products. Several prototypes were developed following a combination of modern, traditional, and novel techniques and assessed across nine categories in three key characteristics: physical properties, health risks, and environmental impacts. The final product exhibited exceptional performance in all categories, proving crop residue as a viable alternative to trees and paving the way for new ideas in sustainable paper products.
