Optimizing Stem Cell Therapy Under Low Oxygen Conditions
Project #5327
I studied whether a signaling molecule called IL-17A could improve stem cell therapy in low-oxygen conditions. Stem cells are unique cells that can transform into many different types of cells in the body, helping to repair damage and grow new tissue. However, in low-oxygen environments, like the heart after a heart attack, stem cells lost important functions and are often rejected. My project explored whether IL-17A could help stem cells survive and perform better in these challenging conditions. This research matters because if we can make stem cell therapy more effective, we could help save millions of lives, such as those recovering from heart attacks or strokes.
