AI-Driven Predictive Algorithm of Dementia Onset in IBD Patients Using EEG & Biomarker Integration

This project develops an AI-driven algorithm to detect early dementia onset in Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) patients by integrating data from an EEG-modulated device and relevant biomarkers. EEG analysis, enhanced by AI, can identify early signs of cognitive decline. Our AI model incorporates multiple biomarkers and neurological parameters to create a comprehensive prediction for physicians. Recent research has linked gut microbiota to the neural network, reinforcing our focus on IBD patients, who are at an increased risk of dementia due to weakened gut microbiomes. This approach aims to enable timely interventions such as cognitive rehabilitation. Traditional EEG systems, which use 12+ electrodes, are costly and inaccessible. To address this, we designed and built a custom 3-electrode EEG device, providing a portable, cost-effective alternative while delivering all necessary data. Beyond this study, we aim to implement the device in trauma centers, allowing doctors to assess brain activity efficiently during critical care.
