Wave to the Future: Harnessing Wave Energy for Sustainable Seawater Desalination
Project #7318
1 in 3 people worldwide lack access to freshwater, and this crisis is especially severe in coastal regions, where reliance on desalination is high but often unaffordable and unsustainable. Traditional desalination methods consume excessive energy and damage the environment, rendering them impractical for low-income and resource-limited areas. Wave to the Future is an efficient, environmentally sustainable, and economically feasible solution that harnesses wave energy to power a renewable desalination system, delivering clean drinking water without reliance on fossil fuels. Through iterative design and testing, we maximized efficiency and allowed it to operate autonomously with minimal maintenance, making it a practical and scalable solution for coastal communities facing water scarcity. By utilizing the constant and untapped power of ocean waves, this system provides a reliable, cost-effective, and long-term alternative to conventional desalination methods. Our solution reduces both carbon emissions and operational costs while securing clean water access for communities in need.
