    Join Dr. Valarie Reeves to discover the exciting work happening in her labs and explore the world of Chemistry at UNB Fredericton! Dr. Reeves, the Director of Undergraduate Studies, creates a supportive and engaging environment for students, drawing from her own experiences as a student. An example of her research includes studying tree health through coniferin, a molecule found in conifers like white pines. Her innovative experiments led to a new field technique for diagnosing hidden tree diseases.

Students will get a glimpse into experiential learning through virtual reality, immersing themselves in scenarios used to train future nurses in client care. You'll also have the chance to interact with a high-fidelity simulator, where you can listen to heart and breath sounds, explore patient monitors, and experience the tools and techniques nurses use every day.

  • 6 - Carbon Capture

    This hands-on activity introduces you to the principles of chemical engineering by exploring methods for capturing carbon dioxide (CO₂) from the air you breathe. You will investigate chemical absorption in water and calculate the CO₂ concentration in a gas sample. Join this session to learn how similar chemical processes are used in carbon capture and storage (CCS) technologies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Engineers optimize these systems for efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and scalability.

    The Quartermain Earth Science Centre is located within the Earth Science Department in the Forestry & Geology building at the University of New Brunswick, Fredericton, NB. The museum offers interactive tours, educational activities and public events. Since its doors opened in June 2011, the public has been invited to celebrate geological discoveries in the Maritimes, across Canada, around the world and beyond. Building on UNB’s 180 years of geological education, the Quartermain Centre has had an impact on how we can think about our planet and the many fields within the Earth Sciences.

    Come get up close and personal with rare and famous materials from UNB Libraries' Science Fiction & Fantasy Collection and Archives & Special Collections (ASC). The Science Fiction & Fantasy Collection is one of the largest in Canada. Together, we'll explore the changing boundaries between science fiction and science fact in books, magazines, film scripts, and more! Items from ASC include personal correspondence between Dr. Theodore Weiner, UNB Professor Emeritus of Physics, and Albert Einstein regarding experimental research, and a large collection of algae specimens from a pioneer in microscopic research, Jacob Whitman Bailey.

Using simple materials like a styrofoam plate, copper wire, and magnets, you’ll explore the principles of electromagnetism and how electrical signals are transformed into sound waves. Along the way, you’ll get an inside look at one of the Electrical and Computer Engineering labs and learn how engineers design and test everyday devices like speakers and headphones.
